A walk through
mumbai suburbs
This book takes the reader on a journey around these heritage sites and is an extension to the map ‘Heritage Circuits of Mumbai Metropolitan Region - Bandra and Coastal Trails’ published by MMR-HCS in collaboration with Environ Design Architects. The book is designed as a guide to anyone who ventures out to explore the history and heritage of the suburbs of Mumbai, as listed on the map and beyond.
The book primarily is a guide book for the tourists, to enjoy the cultural legacy of the city. It is based on the primary heritage listing done by Mumbai Metropolitan Region Heritage Conservation Society.
As the title suggests, the book is essentially divided into two broad sections; the first dealing with Bandra and the second exploring the coastal (and other) trails across Salsette, moving from the southern tip to the north along the coast, and finally concluding with the areas located inland from Andheri to Borivali.
Each chapter begins with a map and an introduction to the area and then goes on to provide details about important landmarks in the area. Wherever possible, architectural elements peculiar to the site are vividly described in order to guide the reader to specific parts of the building.
