A walk through
mumbadevi-dongri

This book is an extension of the map ‘Heritage Circuits of Mumbai Metropolitan Region - Mumbadevi’ published by MMR-HCS in collaboration with Environ Design Architects. It is designed as a guide to anyone who ventures out to explore the history and heritage of the Mumbadevi and Dongri precincts as listed on the map and beyond.

The book primarily is a guide book for the tourists, to enjoy the cultural legacy of the city. It is based on the primary heritage listing done by Mumbai Metropolitan Region Heritage Conservation Society.

The Mumbadevi and Dongri precincts are divided into ten trails or walks in this book, each having a walking route beginning and ending with a prominent landmark or chowk.

The walks are designed for the reader’s experience of walking—a comfortable distance and diversity in the timelines, visuals, smells and textures. The walks encourage wandering— making stumbling upon pieces of lost history joyful and rewarding. Since the fabric of the precinct is dense, spotting buildings featuring in other walks is possible.
